With three weeks to go before the general election, the opinion polls are showing little movement in the position of the biggest parties.
According to the latest edition of the Peilingwijzer poll of polls, the far right PVV will remain the biggest party with 31 to 35 seats in the 150 seat lower house of parliament, with the CDA second (22 – 26) and PvdA-GroenLinks alliance on 21 to 25.
The poll of polls is made up of two nationwide opinion polls, Ipsos I&O and Verian/EenVandaag. A third poll, by Maurice de Hond, has the PVV on 30 seats, the left-wing alliance on 27 and the CDA on 23.
The VVD, which has 24 seats in the current parliament, is on target to win between 12 and 16 seats and is roughly in line with the Liberal Democratic party D66 on 12 to 15. Far right party JA21 is also set to make significant gains.
Most of the other parties will win between three and five seats each but the NSC, which debuted in the outgoing parliament with 20 MEPs, is likely to vanish altogether.
Nevertheless, the pollsters say, many voters are still undecided about which party to support. According to the Verian poll, around 50% still don’t know, with potential VVD and D66 voters most likely to have doubts.
The polls do all point to the difficulty in forming a stable coalition after the vote, with at least four parties likely to be needed.
