The man charged with murdering a teenager, and with the rape and attempted rape of two other women in Amsterdam last August, has confessed to all three crimes.
He told judges at a pro forma hearing in Amsterdam on Wednesday that voices in his head had told him he would “go to heaven” if he committed certain crimes.
The man, known as Christ Jude, is accused of killing 17-year-old Lisa as she cycled home on August 20, raping a woman on the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam on August 15, and attempting to rape another woman five days earlier.
He was arrested on August 21 at a refugee centre in Amsterdam on suspicion of rape and was later linked to the murder of Lisa, who was stabbed to death.
The public prosecutor told the court that Jude said in January that his earlier statements about not remembering anything were untrue. He has recently confessed to all the crimes he is suspected of, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor also said Jude’s claims to have grown up in an orphanage are not true either. He has brothers and a sister and is in contact with her. He is also using a different surname and date of birth from his real ones.
Jude has agreed to undergo a psychiatric assessment at the Pieter Baan Centre.
The next preparatory hearing is on April 30.
