Dutch discount chain Action is planning to expand into the United States, with the first store expected to open by the end of next year or early 2028, the company said at the presentation of its 2025 results.
The retailer, based in Zwaagdijk in Noord-Holland, aims to grow to around 100 stores in the US by the end of 2030. The first outlet is likely to open in the south-eastern United States, with preparations under way to establish a local organisation later this year.
Action said it will follow the same “disciplined and step-by-step approach” in the US as it has used in its European expansion.
The chain opened its first store in Enkhuizen in 1993 and now operates more than 3,300 outlets across 14 countries in Europe. Earlier this month, it launched its first shops in Croatia, with Slovenia set to follow after the summer and Bulgaria next year.
To support its growth, the company plans to open three new distribution centres this year in Italy, Spain and France.
The company booked net sales of €16 billion in 2025, up 16% on 2024. Like for like sales rose 4.9%. Action has been owned by British investment firm 3i Group since 2011.
