Monday is set to be the last warm day for a while, with temperatures ranging from 24°C on the coast to as high as 29°C in Limburg and along the eastern border, according to the KNMI.
The weather service expects a fairly sunny afternoon with a brisk south-westerly wind, strong along the south-west coast. Cloud will build from the west in the evening, with a chance of a shower in places.
Change will come on Tuesday, when NOS weather forecasters expect highs of no more than 18°C or 19°C, lots of clouds and a lengthy spell of rain. Wednesday will also be cooler, with wind on both days.
Thursday should be drier, with temperatures around 20°C when the sun is out. Longer term, forecasters expect a mix of sunshine and showers at fairly average September temperatures, with no return of summer-like weather in sight.
Meteorological autumn began on 1 September.
